The Democrats continue their fabricated narrative that "Russia hacked the election," and a gullible and willing legacy media aids and abets the process. Jeff Sessions was ambushed by former comedian Al Franken in the middle of a confirmation hearing with a news report from CNN and, not having seen the report, gave an answer to the best of his knowledge.
Sessions shared an olive with the Russian ambassador and dozens of others following a speech, and with members of his staff met with him in his capacity as a Senator--long before it became apparent that Trump would win or Sessions would be Attorney General.
The Trump Administration will never be able to back-pedal fast or far enough to escape the Democrats Russia narrative. Stop trying. Fight it head on. Call it the pack of speculation that it is.
The Democrats are trying to portray Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak as some sort of big time spy recruiter, and connect Attorney General Sessions to that. If the this nonsense being pushed by the Democrats was true, then Kislyak has been working overtime to recruit Democrats, including those who worked in the Obama White House.
From the Daily Caller:
Sergey Kislyak appeared in the White House visitor logs dozens of times when Barack Obama was in office.
The visitor logs, which Obama made public in 2009 in a push for transparency, show that the long-time Russian ambassador to the United States visited the White House at least 22 times between 2009 and 2016.
Kislyak appeared in the logs as recently as September 2016 when he had a meeting scheduled with one of Obama’s senior advisers, John Holdren, in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. The other visitors listed at the meeting are Marina W. Gross, Alexander Ermolaev, Alexey Lopatin, Vyacheslav Balakirev and Sergey Sarazhinskiy. Though the appointment was scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm, it does not include an end time.
Kislyak was also listed on the logs in July 2016, March 2016, January 2016, August 2015, April 2014, February 2014, May 2013, February 2013, November 2012, December 2011, July 2011, December 2010, October 2010, May 2010, April 2010, February 2010, March 2010, December 2009 and September 2009.
The logs include which White House official hosted Kislyak each time he was cleared to visit. The hosts included are: Gary Samore, who was the senior National Security Council official on weapons of mass destruction during Obama’s first term (four visits); Robert Malley, who was Obama’s senior adviser on defeating the Islamic State (three visits); Lawrence Summers, who was Obama’s economic adviser (one visit); Michael Froman, Obama’s trade representative; Holdren (two visits); and the visitor’s office (four visits).

We have also now learned that the Obama administration set up Sessions' first meeting with ambassador Kislyak during the “Global Partners in Diplomacy” conference during the 2016 Republican National Convention in Cleveland. Sessions just happened to be the keynote speaker at the event sponsored by the U.S. State Department, Heritage Foundation, and several other organizations.
Ambassadors were invited by the Obama State Department to attend the conference and observe the GOP convention. The Obama State Department handled all of the coordination and details with ambassadors and their staff, not the GOP.
Over 100 ambassadors were in attendance at the conference.
After Sessions finished his keynote address, Kislyak and a small group of other ambassadors met the Senator he left the stage. Kislyak and the other ambassadors thanked Sessions for speaking at the conference.
The Democrats are making a big deal out of this brief hand shake and thank you at a public event that included several other ambassadors as if it was a secret meeting to hatch a plan to influence the presidential election and overthrow the U.S. government. Nothing but liberal lunacy.
Oh, guess who also sat with the Democrats during President Trump's address to the joint session of Congress earlier this week? A certain Russian ambassador named Sergey Kislyak.
Bottom line, Senators meet or speak on the phone with foreign diplomats all the time, including Russians. It's bizarre and hypocritical of the Democrats to demand Sessions resign over forgetting to mention two events in which a Russian ambassador was present in the room.
Yes, Sessions should be more careful, but it's not a crime to be forgetful. And what horrible things have happened as a result of those two encounters? Nothing.
This is a tempest in a teapot, a way for the Democrats to harass the incoming Trump administration, aided by a sympathetic liberal press.
The meeting with Kislyak in Sessions’s office was covered then by the Washington Post, for heaven’s sake. And the Post covered the other five-minute meet-cute as well at the time.
Sessions’s office has claimed that as a senior U.S senator he’s met with dozens of ambassadors in his office to talk about improved U.S. relations, and all he needs to do is release the records. He must have felt bushwhacked by these unsupported accusations of what amounts to treason.
Sessions is a cynical guy and in the current poisonous atmosphere where liberals live in true dread of a successful Trump agenda, he can’t have been too surprised in retrospect that they’d pull something like this.
This is clearly just another no-holds-barred attempt to delegitimize the Trump presidency. We are seeing a strategy by the bankrupt Democrat party and leftover acolytes from the previous administration in various agencies, i.e., throw anything that says "Russians" up against the wall and see what the liberal media can make stick.
It doesn't matter if anything is true, legal, not newsworthy or innocent. Under the transformation of the hate Trump movement, they will endeavor to make the most innocuous behavior guilty of something.
Of course, as the hypocrites they are, they never applied the same standard to themselves like Eric Holder who not only admittedly lied to Congress, but was held in contempt and Loretta Lynch who failed to recuse herself from the ongoing Clinton investigation despite meeting with the spouse and co-beneficiary of the foundation being investigated.
Only a partisan idiot would fail to see the hypocrisy and the prolonged hissy fit the Democrats are having because they lost the election.
