Sessions facing growing calls to resign

A growing number of Republicans joined Democratic leaders on Thursday in calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to step aside from an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 White House election.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Sessions should only recuse himself from a Justice Department investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election if Sessions is a subject of that investigation.

Sessions spoke twice with Russia's U.S. ambassador during the presidential campaign season in 2016, the Justice Department says. Sessions, during his confirmation hearings, denied having 'communications with the Russians.'

Sessions said at his confirmation hearings that he'd had no communications with Russia during the campaign.
