Christian school in Denver drops Crusaders mascot because it might offend Muslims

A Christian school in Denver, Colorado is changing its Crusaders mascot because school officials think the nickname may be offensive to Muslims. Denver Christian Schools has been using the Crusaders mascot for 65 of the school’s 100 year history.

School officials claim that people are concerned about the mascot being associated with the crusades, a series of wars between Christians and Muslims.

“In our mission, in light of the command to love our neighbors as ourselves, the crusader was an inconsistent, inappropriate symbol for that mission.

“It has nothing to do with political correctness. It’s got everything to do with love and empathy for our neighbors.

“A mascot is just a name. The name of the school, the name of who we are as people, and the name of the community we’re trying to create and invite other to is Christian,” Denver Christian Schools CEO Todd Lanting said.

What the activists seek is not a truly diverse society with true tolerance, but a mono-culture where one set of social values is imposed, by law, on everyone. I am not in favor of that because it would eventually destroy all our liberty, as liberty would become nothing but a governments’ mandated value system.
